Self-alignment of a Binocular Robot
نویسندگان
چکیده
We describe a novel method by which a four-axis binocular head platform can autonomously align its cameras so that their optic axes are parallel to each other and to the forward direction of the robot. The method uses controlled pans and elevations of the robot while viewing an unstructured scene in order to determine lines on the plane at infinity, whose intersection we prove to be the forward direction of the robot. The alignment is completed by fixating the projections of this point in both cameras. We summarize the underlying theory, and present results from a fully autonomous implementation of the algorithm.

Self-localization of Indoor Mobile Robots Based on Artificial Landmarks and Binocular Stereo Vision
For the self-localization problem of the indoor mobile robots, a self-localization method of indoor mobile robots based on artificial landmarks and binocular stereo vision was proposed in this paper. First, a color scalable artificial landmark model is designed to give position information of the environment. Second, using the color segmentation, invariance of cross-ratio and self-adaptive wind...
متن کاملThe horoptor and active cyclotorsion
When a particular 3 0 point is fixated b y a robotic stereo system different portions of the world are brought into interocular alignment. This region is known as the horoptor. Purposeful modifications to the binocular geometry can be used to bring different regions of three-space closer to the horoptor: Camera pan and tilt define the rough structure of the horoptor, while camera torsion can be...
متن کاملDynamic Modeling and Construction of a New Two-Wheeled Mobile Manipulator: Self-balancing and Climbing
Designing the self-balancing two-wheeled mobile robots and reducing undesired vibrations are of great importance. For this purpose, the majority of researches are focused on application of relatively complex control approaches without improving the robot structure. Therefore, in this paper we introduce a new two-wheeled mobile robot which, despite its relative simple structure, fulfills the req...
متن کاملLearning VOR-like stabilization reflexes in robots
We present a binocular robot that learns compensatory camera movements for image stabilization purposes. Most essential in achieving satisfactory image stabilization performance is the exploitation/integration of different self-motion information. In our robot, self-motion is measured inertially through an artificial vestibular apparatus and visually using basic motion detection algorithms. The...
متن کاملStability of human binocular alignment in the dark and under conditions of nonfixation.
PURPOSE To evaluate the stability of human binocular alignment under conditions of altered fixation and luminance. METHODS Horizontal binocular alignment in 8 healthy orthotropic subjects was measured using infrared video-oculography (VOG) under conditions of binocular fixation and luminance change. Each testing condition was preceded by a binocular fixation period in room light (475 lux) to ...
